Hi:
I have to use a database that is very hard to navigate using Jaws. In order to get to the correct link, I need to hit enter, then use a right mouse click to expand the link. Then, when I hit a link titled "consumer", there is a drop-down menu which Jaaws doesn't read. If I hit the mouse button again to expand the link, the webpage disappears. Sorry, I know this is probably a confusing question, but what key combinations could I possibly use to highlight a link, and access a dropdown menu. I'm not great using the Jaws cursor, so, if possible, please give me some very specific instructions.
My sighted counterparts can access the site, no problemo. I think I'm just pressing the wrong keystrokes. When I use the mouse, I use Caps lock plus 8, which is a right click. It works the first time, but again, not the second. Any alternative combinations I could use? I really need to access this website for work.
Thanks for any suggestions.
I had a web site at work like this that I had to access for a line count daily. Freedom scientific actually looked at it too, and the guy said it was such crap that I ought to get a lawyer on a mess like that. Finally, I would route jaws to PC and use up and down arrows to get my line counts. I would only listen to jaws not the PC cursor. Yes, it was time consuming, and yes it was frustrating. But I worked at home then and there were no sighted folks here to look at the screen. Hope this helps. And too, I would use the right and left arrows with the jaws key; anything to find out my lines for the day.
Last time I came across this The jaws cursor wouldn't do much for me. I had to right click to open the menu which I did by hitting the applications key. THen once I hit open on that it pulled up the menu, however jaws wouldn't read it, so I had to guess where to enter. It would just say drop down menu or something of the sort. After multiple guesses and going back and forth I would usualy get there. I ended up finding a different way to go to the same information. It was nearly impossible with those menu. Sometimes trying a different browser helps, and multiple screen readers. Try mozilla, Internet explorer and chrome if you can. If you can possibly try jaws, NVDA, and safari with voiceover, it would also be good. The problem with most of these menus is that they are usually flash menus. When the mouse hovers over them tey pop up visually. Jaws does not react well at all to them. I think voiceover does slightly better, but it's still not ideal. If you need more help, add me on skype, and perhaps I can test the site for you.
Okay, so I tried Google Chrome, and Mozilla. I don't know why, but with Mozilla, the navigation was nearly flawless. Plus, the information took forever to submit using Internet Explorer 8 took seconds with Mozilla. I downloaded it onto my home laptop, and will download it onto my work computer.
There's still a few funky things. Like, when I use the right mouse click, I have to press escape to get out of the menu options for that button. But when I do that, I get the links I need and can choose the link I need, repeat the process then press enter. I don't know why Mozilla seems to work so much quicker, but it does. Now, I'm just hoping I won't have the webpage expire. But, I plan to log onto the site often. I have a feeling Mozilla won't end up being as picky as Internet Explorer 8. I'm not sure why it works better with JFW, but it does. Yessss!! Thanks for the suggestions. If anything else goes wrong, I'll post a reply.
I'm gladthat seems to work better.
Along the same lines, does anyone know how to make jaws hover over a link? I found a key combination for NVDA, but jaws does not seem to do it.
